Great Arch Analysis Report (2017)

Santa Barbara Courthouse Great Arch and steps

We are currently raising funds to complete the Great Arch Analysis Report.  Evergreene, the conservators of the Mural Room, will produce the report and once completed, we can begin our next major fundraising campaign.

The fee for the Analysis report is $65,000 and to date, we have secured $45,000, including $ 5000 from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.  An additional $20,000 is required to finish this vital report. Any documents or plans for preservation work that result from the project must conform to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.  We are not allowed to begin fundraising for the Great Arch, until the report is concluded.

Did You Know...

The Sunken Garden is host to community-wide celebrations all year long. What is often mistaken about this magical place is its layout of stone walls—many are told it is the basement of the former courthouse prior to the 1925 earthquake. This is myth. The sandstone blocks that form the current day landscape were recycled from the older courthouse buildings after the 1925 earthquake.
