Sue Adams

Vice President

For the past 50 years, Sue has been a contributor to a multitude of local causes; from advocating for the homeless, to assisting those who need medical care, to protecting the environment, and preserving places of historic and architectural significance.

Owner of The Footnote for 20 years, Sue was a State Street merchant concerned about homelessness.  Along with Marshal Rose, David Peri, Mark Asman, and Roger Heroux  she was instrumental in forming and serving on the Executive Board of Casa Esperanza, a day care center where the homeless could receive their mail, take showers, eat meals, and receive medical and social services.

She is passionate about assisting those who have little access to medical care.  She served as Case Manager on the Board of the St. Cecilia Society for 10 years.  She now volunteers at the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara where she authors grant requests for those in need of medical and dental care.

Her spirit of volunteerism has prompted her to serve on the boards of the Santa Barbara Visiting Nurses Association, Transition House, the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation, Hospice of Santa Barbara, Citizens Planning Association, and the Downtown Organization, when, in 1998, she received the Downtown Organization’s Citizen of the Year Award.  In 2001, she was awarded the Santa Barbara News-Press Lifetime Achievement Award.  In 2002 she was selected as the Santa Barbara Woman of the Year for her contribution of time and energy to her community, which, in her words “was really a tribute to my compassionate friends and fellow volunteers who tirelessly give of themselves for the benefit of others.

Sue currently serves on the following Boards:  Casa Esperanza, The Museum of Natural History League, the St. Francis Foundation, the Courthouse Legacy Foundation, the Pearl Chase Society Executive Board, The Friendship Center Executive Board, the Community Arts Music Association Women’s Board and the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Board.
