Events are the primary method the Foundation uses to get its “Building On A Legacy” message to the community. The Foundation has a fantastic Events Committee, here are some of their accomplishments. Awesome Work!

May 29th Main Ceiling Celebration

A celebration to highlight the completion of the restoration of the main archway ceiling was held on May 29, 2009--due to the Tea Fire a week before, this event was rescheduled because many of our friends suffered damage from the fire. The ceiling restoration was funded by the Pearl Chase Society and completed in 7-weeks. (Photographs: (l) Main Arch Ceiling (r) Celebration Dinner in the Mural Rm.

Dedication of Van Cina Painting:

A celebration in honor of Keith Mautino was held in February of 2009 on the occasion of the gift by Mautino of a Theo Van Cina painting--some 100 close friends of CLF and Mautino enjoyed a presentation by Frank Goss (pictured-right) of the painting and its painter.

Behind the Scenes:
Come join other community members are the Foundation host two special evenings of touring areas of the courthouse rarely seen by the public. There will be three tours on May 9th and May 16th.

Formation Luncheon (June 2004)

This is the first public exposure the Foundation undertook. This luncheon, with community leadership was designed to brainstorm opportunities and challenges to the formation of a not-for-profit corporation with the sole purpose of raising conservation funds on behalf of the Santa Barbara Courthouse. There were about 25 attendees. The event was held in the Mural Room of the courthouse.

75th Anniversary Celebration (August 2004)

This event celebrates the 75th anniversary of the dedication of the Santa Barbara Courthouse. The complex was first dedicated on August 14, 1929 during the annual Old Spanish Days-Fiesta. The setting of the dedication plaque took place during the Fiesta program at the courthouse. The plaque was donated by the California Son’s of the Golden West.

Hall of Records “Hard Hat Luncheon” (January 2005)

This event truly marks the first “open to the public” event hosted by the Foundation with the gracious support of the County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor. The Hall or Records was undergoing a major interior restoration---the time this event took place marked the mid-point of demolition inside the building. The purpose of the event was to raise the awareness of the complicity of restoration work and give an idea of what the Foundation’s future work could look like. The event was well attended and raised about $1,500.

Secretary Norton Event (May 2005)

This was a major event for the Foundation. It took months of planning and coordination with the Secretary of the Interior’s office. There were three events this day: a private tour of the complex, lead by the County Architect with members of the Foundation accompanying the Secretary. A public designation ceremony in the sunken garden, attended by representatives of federal, state and local elected officials, the Judicial Council, Judges and important community members in addition to visitor to the building that day. After a short program of appreciation for the legacy of the building, including remarks by the Courthouse Legacy Foundation president, Naomi Schwartz; the Hon. Gale Norton designated the entire city block a National Historic Landmark. Following this event was a private reception in the Secretary’s honor attended by foundation members, local dignitaries and foundation partners.

Hall of Records: “Dinner under the Skylight” (September 2005)

This event celebrates the completion of the Hall of Records interior restoration. A project costing just over 3 million dollars. The evening was enjoyed by both foundation supporters, partners and members of the restoration team. The attendees were entertained by a harpist who sat in the balcony overlooking the grand center space where tables had been set for a most incredible dining experience. This event raised $15,700.

Van Cina Mural:  “Funeral of Figueroa” (December 5, 2006)

This event celebrated the completion conservation work on a Theo Van Cine painted mural recently donated to the Courthouse Legacy Foundation. There are four other Van Cina murals hanging in the Santa Barbara Courthouse and soon the Figueroa mural will join them in the public hallway. Through the generous support of the community the conservation costs ($5,600) were raised within seven days of the Foundation obtaining the piece. This event will also mark the Foundations year of accomplishments and upcoming projects.
