Secretary Norton Event May 2005

A public designation ceremony in the sunken garden, attended by representatives of federal, state and local elected officials, the Judicial Council, Judges and important community members in addition to visitor to the building that day. After a short program of appreciation for the legacy of the building, including remarks by the Courthouse Legacy Foundation president, Naomi Schwartz; the Hon. Gale Norton designated the entire city block a National Historic Landmark. Following this event was a private reception in the Secretary’s honor attended by foundation members, local dignitaries and foundation partners.

The purpose of the event was to raise the awareness of the complicity of restoration work and give an idea of what the Foundation’s future work could look like. The event was well attended and raised about $1,500.
